Sheryl Sandberg Wants Women to “Lean In”

You may have heard some of the hype or controversy surrounding this book by Facebook’s COO, Sheryl Sandberg. She examines the causes of why women’s leadership is not progressing at the rate it should and the ways in which women can achieve their leadership potential. I had the chance to read it over the summer, and I haven’t been able to stop recommending it since then. I think it brings up some really great points about commonsense ways for women to advance their leadership. One point that I found to be thought provoking was her idea that women should not let vague plans for the future limit themselves. In the past I have let future plans for children prevent me from considering a job whereas Sandberg recommends taking the job you love and then figuring out how to balance it in the future. The future is too uncertain let it limit your current leadership. Although I like many of her ideas currently, I think it would be interesting to consider this book again after I have taken this class and have furthered my ideas on women and leadership.

  2. LOVE that idea of not letting vague future plans limit you. That is a topic that would be a really great in-class discussion. I’ll definitely look into this book, as well.
