Malala video

I was going to show parts of this video in class today, as an example of a contemporary woman who is breaking the rules, and in a way that demonstrates leadership. Malala Yousafzai is an advocate for girls’ education in Pakistan. She was shot in the head by the Taliban for her views and her leadership. She received the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for her work. (Watch from 0 – 2:20 and 5:20 – 7:20, or the entire clip if you wish.)

  1. This video does a good job showing how women in different cultures have somewhat of the same struggles as women in America, but the circumstances surrounding the struggles are different. In America, although it used to be considered unfeminine for women to obtain a higher education, we never would have had to be worried about being shot over wanting an education. I can’t imagine fearing for my life over simply going to school.
