Opinions, Oh my!

After just two classes, I have already been struck by the variety of different opinions on gender roles and leadership that I have already seen.  However, I am also forced to recognize the fact that in the grand scheme of things, our class does lack much possible diversity in its opinions. After all, we have only one male in the class, and a lot of nationalities, religions, ethnicities and sexual orientations are unrepresented.

When I signed up for the class I never thought about  how much opinions and beliefs factor into this particular leadership class in a way they have not in other leadership classes. I am curious to see how and how much the opinions of the students will shape our discussions.

  1. I completely agree with your point. We sometimes forget that there is a much bigger world outside our classroom when it comes to such issues. Our classroom is limited in many factors, so we must take these into consideration when we are discussing such issues. Additionally, I am quite excited to see where this class takes us and all the interesting view points.

  2. I completely agree as well. When I first walked into our classroom, I was struck by how similiar we are as whole. Even going beyond the visible traits we share, we have to take into account the socio-economic status many of us likely share, our shared undergraduate experiences, and so on. As Allison said, our classroom is limited. I think it’s important that we recognize that. However it has already been extremely gratifying to learn from so many differerent opinions. For me, thinking about the vast array of thoughts our class produces has been truly eye opening on the spectrum of perspectives on women and leadership, and I’m looking forward to continuing to learn more.
