Women in the work force

I often wonder how women are perceived in the more masculine roles. However, after I spent this last summer working for the federal government that it shouldn’t matter if you are a male or a female. If you can get the job done than the conversation does not need to go any further. This is what I worry about, I worry that if we focus too much on gender we will lose the quality of good work.

  1. I agree that by “genderizing” job professions, there is a natural shift away from the focus of the work itself- but I don’t necessarily think that’s a bad thing. For the same reason that quotas are what I believe to still be a necessary check for many institutions, I believe that recognizing the need for a diversified workforce (or more simply, the necessity for the work force to be able to be fairly and easily diversified) is essential.
